Upsilon Beta Omega Chapter - Salt Lake City, Utah
Alpha Kappa Alpha (ΑΚΑ) is the first Greek-lettered sorority established and incorporated by African American college women. The sorority was founded on January 15, 1908, at Howard University in Washington, D.C., by a group of nine students, led by Ethel Hedgeman Lyle. Forming a sorority broke barriers for African American women in areas where little power or authority existed due to a lack of opportunities for minorities and women in the early 20th century.
Alpha Kappa Alpha was incorporated on January 29, 1913.
Upsilon Beta Omega Graduate Chapter was chartered in 1994.
I am Emma E. Houston, President of Upsilon Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. More than 21 years ago, Upsilon Beta Omega became the first and only Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, chapter in the state of Utah. As we continue to celebrate the rich heritage of our sorority, I extend warm and heartfelt greetings from our members as we continue to "be of service to all mankind." We look forward to collaborating with friends and community organizations as we support efforts that relate to the needs of families in our Utah community.
Thank you for being a part of our AKA journey.
